The Lyndhurst Fire Department will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program throughout the city starting today, May 1st!
As flushing takes place, residents may temporarily experience low water pressure or notice discoloration in their water. This is caused by sediment being stirred up in the system and is not harmful.
Residents are advised to avoid doing laundry while flushing is occurring in their neighborhood and to check water clarity before washing clothes. If discoloration is present, run cold water from your faucets for approximately five minutes, or until the water runs clear.
Hydrant flushing is an important maintenance practice that helps keep the water system clean and ensures hydrants and valves are functioning properly.
