I appreciate that you are taking the time to read our magazine and this letter to you. I often wish we could just stop the clock for a long moment in order to take a deep breath and focus on the things that are special in our lives — like real things; not on Facebook or on a device but things with substance — family, friends, neighbors. It is something we just don't seem to take the opportunity to do. Perhaps, when you walk outside and see a neighbor, try to start a conversation and see where it goes. It needs to start somewhere!

I hate having to give this reminder but it is needed. We have had a rash of "car entries" where vehicles in drives have been left unlocked — a couple with keys inside — which has been an opportunity for theft. PLEASE, LOCK YOUR CARS always! Please, remove your keys or FOBs whenever you leave your car, even for a moment. When thieves are successful, THEY COME BACK, so if we pay attention to the security of our vehicles, we protect our property and our community.

The change of season is nearly upon us. We have enjoyed our pool and spray park facilities, but they will soon close for the season. We have shared wonderful evenings at our Summer Concerts and National Night Out events. Our crews have been busy tending and pruning and patching. Contractors have been hard at work on projects large and small across our City. It has been a fun yet busy time in Lyndhurst. Our City Council and my Administration continue to invest in our infrastructure to the benefit of all.

In a few weeks we will have the opportunity to gather as a community at our 97th Annual Home Day Event, a weekend filled with friends, local organizations and businesses. What started as a "one day picnic in the park" 97 years ago has grown but the core purpose, the real point, is to come together and enjoy each other as a community. We will also have our Annual Council Coffee event where great information on all our City services will be available. We are hoping to see you there!
