Description: Edgar Stehli, owner of Windswept in Time Nursery, will answer all your questions about growing and caring for orchids. He will also have orchid plants for sale and will conduct an orchid plant clinic. If you bring an orchid to the meeting, please enclose it in a clear plastic bag in case insects might be present.
Orchids are different from other houseplants, as they do not grow in soil. Most orchids in the wild are not rooted in the ground, but instead attach themselves by thick roots to the sides of trees and on branches. The plants absorb water and nutrients from the air and rain. They are far tougher and hardier than most people imagine. There are many easy-to-grow types that adapt to the growing conditions found on the average home windowsill.
Windswept in Time is located at 8066 Skyline Drive in Broadview Heights. Customers need to make an appointment to visit the greenhouse, but there will be an open house for the public on May 27 and 28 from 11 am to 5 pm each day.
