What: Lyndhurst Garden Club - All You Wanted to Know About Lawns
When: Thursday, April 2nd 2015. Business Meeting: 7:00 PM. Program: 8:00 PM.
Where: Lyndhurst Community Center, 1341 Parkview Road, Lyndhurst, Ohio 44124.
Description: No two lawns are exactly alike. Lawns may differ by turf species, soil type, climate, location, how they are used, and how they are maintained.
Your lawn -- and how you take care of it -- could also help the environment. Healthy grass provides feeding ground for birds, which find it a rich source of insects, worms, and other food.
Thick grass prevents soil erosion, filters contaminants from rainwater, and absorbs many types of airborne pollutants, like dust and soot. Grass is also highly efficient at converting carbon dioxide to oxygen, a process that helps clean the air.
Larry Cirillo is a Lyndhurst resident. He was employed in the South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools for 40 years, first as a science teacher and later as principal of Memorial Junior High.
In retirement, he has worked for Gales Garden Center for 10 years, volunteers for Meals on Wheels and Auhja Medical Center, and is a longstanding member of Kiwanis. Larry is an avid vegetable gardener.
