From The Police Department: Winter Reminders

With winter upon us, we remind all motorists to exercise caution in their travels. Rear end crashes as result of failure to maintain an "assured clear distance ahead" are one of our most common accidents throughout the year. These can be avoided or mitigated by simply maintaining a minimal safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you, depending on your speed and roadway conditions. In snow or on ice, drive slowly. Make this one of your safe driving habits. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads. Accelerating, stopping and turning do not happen as quickly as on dry pavement. Give yourself time to maneuver by driving slowly.
Lyndhurst residents are reminded not to pile snow higher than three feet, or closer than three feet to the curb, so the view of drivers or pedestrians (especially children) exiting driveways, is not obstructed.
