The Legislative Committee will meet on Monday, May 21, 2012 immediately following the Public Lands and Buildings Committee Meeting to discuss the taxation of certain lottery and gaming winnings.

May 21, 2012: Legislative Committee

The Legislative Committee met on Monday, May 21, 2012, in the conference room at Lyndhurst Municipal Center. Present at the meeting were committee members Mr. Ward, Mr. Marko and Chairman Schlessel. Also present were Councilman Frey, Councilman LoPresti, the Mayor, Finance Director and the Law Director.
The meeting was called to order at 7:32pm, to discuss taxing issues for gaming and lottery winnings.
The Finance Director summarized the impact of Draft House Bill 386. With the current threshold for gaming tax set at five million dollars ($5,000,000.00) it was estimated that the City could have collected twenty-six thousand eight hundred forty-five dollars ($26,845.00) between 2005 and 2011 from lottery winnings.
Discussions were held about changing the threshold amount from five million dollars ($5,000.000.00) to one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00).
The committee recommendation was to wait on the passage of House Bill 386.
Mr. Ward moved to adjourn the legislative committee meeting and it was seconded by Mr. Marko and the meeting was adjourned at 7:50PM.
