Curbside Automated Recycling
The Service Department would like to give thanks for an extremely successful year of curbside recycling. With your cooperation the City collected 1,418 tons of recycling in 2010 which was an increase of over 129 tons from 2009. We were we able to avoid paying the $54,000 it would have cost for disposal at the landfill.
In 2010 Lyndhurst along with many other eastside communities entered into a profit sharing contract for single stream recycling. We are now receiving a rebate for the recycling that is collected. If you are not recycling please start using this program as it enables us to lower costs and use less tax dollars to operate.
**We now accept phone books with all other plastics (1-7), metal food cans, glass bottles and jugs and paper/cardboard, all junk mail - just reference the guidelines sticker on the lid of the recycling cart and place these items loosely in the blue recycling cart.
**Please remember to have all rubbish & recycling out to the curb by 7:00am the day of pickup. Due to the increased efficiency of the automated process we are completing our routes earlier Therefore we may be on many streets earlier in the day.
Yard Waste Program
In the spring of 2010 the Service Department started a yard waste collection program. Last year Lyndhurst residents placed over 1,000 tons of yard waste to the curb. This material was taken to a compost facility in Cleveland and made into organic soil supplements. This diversion from the landfill saved taxpayers approximately $40,000 in landfill fees. This program has been very successful and will continue in 2011. Please remember that all organic waste including leaves, grass, hedge clippings and garden plants must be placed in paper yard waste bags (available at most retail outlets) or in designated yard waste cans. "Yard Waste Only" stickers are available for pickup at the service department during regular business hours: Mon-Fri 7:00am - 3:30pm. Just place these stickers on your old garbage cans so we can easily identify your yard waste only cans. Place all yard waste cans and bags at least 3 feet from rubbish and recycling carts on your treelawn. Please remember these yard waste cans and bags are for yard waste only - yard waste in plastic bags will not be accepted.
Weekend Rubbish
The weekend rubbish program will resume at the service garage on April 2, 2011. The hours of operation are 11:30am to 3:30pm both Saturday and Sunday. This program will also accept household hazardous waste. This service is only available to Lyndhurst residents, so please bring an ID for proof or residency.
Document Shredding
Due to the well received Community Shredding Day last October, The City of Lyndhurst has scheduled another secure Community Shredding Day. Please be sure to bring proof of residency to the Lyndhurst City Hall parking lot on Saturday May 7, 2011 from 11:30am to 3:30pm.
